"I'm not going to fix you; I'm going to empower you."
I am Laura Ryder, the founder of The Counselling Room.
I am a humanistic and integrative counsellor. That basically means I employ a range of techniques from approaches including psychodynamic, Gestalt therapy and CBT, but am primarily a person-centred counsellor who believes everyone - and therefore every counselling journey - is unique.
What can you expect
I promise to provide a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space where we can explore whatever is bothering you. I will help you in your search for a way to live well and become the best version of yourself. Together we will wander through your mind. I will not lead you to a solution, but I will be by your side as we figure out your best way forward. I will help to facilitate this process by being an unbiased ear: listening to you, reflecting back what I'm hearing and questioning what I may not understand. Throughout the process you can count on me for compassionate straight talking - on your side in the best way possible.
The good news is that as a team we will figure out your best path, tailor made just for you. The bad news is this means some hard work on your part, taking a very active part in the process. The hard work will be worth it however.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY
"I was stuck, I was anxious, I was tired and I was demotivated. I had been this way for years but particularly over the last two. My life was 'fine' by all accounts but I was not really moving forward! I knew I needed to talk but I was also afraid of what would come up and potentially unsettle my 'fine' life. I knew I was stuck though and the 'fine' on the outside was no longer fine inside. Laura was the right person at the right time. She put me at ease and I found myself talking and crying and yet feeling good...I had found someone who made it easy for me to release without feeling judged or guilty for my thoughts. I found a space to connect with myself and really let myself feel. We walked and talked and Laura listened and prompted with understanding. It was the best thing I had done for myself in a very long time. I would recommend Laura to anyone who wants space to be themselves. An hour a week to be able to talk, unfiltered, is very refreshing!"
